With this piece I wanted to create a contemporary-sounding tune based on an interesting rhythmic groove. The piece is based on a cycled groove in 7/4, which then changes to 6/4 to create interest.

The slightly uneasy feeling this piece creates was a reflection of what was going on in my life when I wrote the tune- the unsure and uncertain feeling when you come out of a long relationship.

Commissioned by WA Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Instrumentation
2 alto saxophones,2 tenor saxophones, baritone saxophone, 4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 bass trombone, drums, guitar, piano, bass.
